Heron So Blue is a song about the yearning to be free from social pressures and judgement inspired by the Blue Heron as it was seen flying elegantly over the Rideau river where I often paddle. It was produced with Jim Bryson/Fixed Hinge Studio in Stittsville and features Ottawa locals Ajmal Saparno on saxophone and Nesia and Nadhirah Saparno on backing vocals.

I wrote this song to give a face and a story to the effects of the Bill 21 legislation or Project de la loi 21 in Quebec which is a law enacted since 2019 that prevents the wearing of religious symbols by provincial public officials.
I hope that this song brings light and perspective to let one feel and rethink its negative impact on everyday people. I wrote it from stories of people I know and putting myself in their shoes.

I wrote this song about my mom just a few months after her passing in 2017. I recorded this song with Jim Bryson in January 2022, just a few weeks after my dad passed. It was definitely a music therapy session for me.
